Buying bras for your pregnant partner
By Tracey-jane Hughes of bras4mums
You often want to treat your partner to new lingerie - as a treat for both of you. This is particularly important when they're pregnant when they're often feeling rough and not their usual selves. When you want to buy maternity bras for your pregnant partner, remember that her body is changing all the time. Look at the bras she was wearing most recently before she found out she was pregnant. Look at the size of this, and also try and notice the style of bra it is - what is the cup shape like? What type of fabric is used in the bra? Your partner at the start of pregnancy will find that her breasts grow in size - often great for you, but not always so great for her! Breasts are often tender and sore. They are getting ready, already, for breastfeeding baby. It also means that her bra size is already different. Using her favourite bra as a base, add one band size to the size to get a starting point e.g. 34D becomes 36D. Then try and compare the shape of the bra to the different shapes you see in the pictures of the styles you like. Try and get a similar shape as this is most likely to suit her body and breast shape. Also use a company who will exchange and offer advice and support to you and your partner, before and after the purchase. The knowledge that you can exchange a bra for your hormonal partner will put your mind at rest, as well as ensure she's really pleased with her gift.

Contributor's Note
I have been a bra fitter for over 5 years now after I got incorrect advice during my pregnancy. I've been trained and have experience of maternity and nursing bra fitting. I sell a wide selection of styles and sizes in the UK via the bras4mums website and as well as offering a local bra fitting service in the North West of England, also offer advice by email and phone to customers further afield which from the feedback we get works well. Happy to deal with any bra fitting queries as we also deal with ordinary bras and other specialist bras e.g. mastectomy, plus size
